Social & Political Philosophy: Fourth Paper Prompt & Topics

Since the third paper, we have covered fascism, postcolonialism and feminism.  You are always welcome to choose your own topic for the paper, but here are some possible topics available:

1) What does Heidegger’s involvement with the Nazis say about his philosophy or the practice of philosophy in general?  Can existentialism be compatible with fascism?

2) Fanon argues that black culture must retain a degree of autonomy from mainstream culture to avoid being marginalized through assimilation.  How can assimilation and autonomy be balanced?

3) Fanon argues that violence is sometimes necessary in opposing oppression.  What are the advantages and disadvantages of violent and nonviolent resistance?

4) Third wave feminism rose as a pro-sex criticism of second wave feminism.  How can feminists embrace sexuality in a male-dominated and oppressive culture?
