For
the third paper, you should discuss in at least three typed
double-spaced pages whether there are absolute certainties (the position
of Descartes) or if all truth is assumption (the position of Hume). A
good example is 2 + 3 = 5, about which Descartes says we could not
possibly be deceived. Do we know this truth by deduction to be
absolutely certain, or do we assume this by induction to be decently
useful? You may, in answering this question, agree or disagree with Hegel, who argued that the sum of all subjective positions is the objective truth.
As an option for the paper, you can also write six pages, and this will count for both the third and fourth papers in the class.
