For the third paper, you should discuss in at least two typed double-spaced pages whether there are absolute certainties (the position of Descartes) or if all truth is assumption (the position of Hume). A good example is 2 + 3 = 5, about which Descartes says we could not possibly be deceived. Do we know this truth by deduction to be absolutely certain, or do we assume this by induction to be decently useful?
If you are co-enrolled in the history class, there is a different assignment. Instead of the third and fourth two page papers, you are to write a single essay about a philosopher of your choice and how their time and situation in history helped shape their ideas. It should be at least eight pages, and will also count for your project in the history class. It will be due in your History class on December 7th.
