The second response essay (at least two pages, typed and double spaced) is due this Friday (10/14), also the day of the midterm. You are welcome to invent your own topic, but some possible topics you can reflect on include:
The close and closed community (Theravada) vs. the open and common community (Mahayana)
Sudden vs. gradual enlightenment, knowledge and ability
Emptiness/Openness as compassionate or nihilistic
Absolute vs. relative truth as superior (when? where?)
